If you have 4 mail hosts then you ought to have a postmaster whose job it is
to monitor those 4 systems and read mail to the postmaster/postoffice on
each of them.

This too is common sense...

Arguments to the contrary that begin with something like "but our postmaster
is too busy" will be summarily ignored since they are just symptoms of a
deeper illness.  Servers need to be monitored for errors/failures - anybody
who tells you otherwise is probably trying to sell you a server...
