S L O W dns lookups

I have had some problems with DNS lookup speed for incoming
smtp connections. It turns out this is "fixable" by having
only localhost in /etc/resolv.conf ...

Of course this means that zmailer will stop working if the
local named daemons stops working for one reason or another,
so I don't want to leave my machine in this state forever :)

Would it be a solution to use shorter timeouts or something
like that to speed up the RBL/RSS/ORBS lookup speed for
non-local DNS servers?

(basically we don't care if we miss one of these lookups,
it might cause one spam email to get through, but at least
email will continue to work ...)

The Internet is not a network of computers. It is a network
of people. That is its real strength.
