Personally, I have been a big fan of zmailer and continue to use it.  
However, I have found myself using and recommending Postfix as it does  
certain things better than zmailer. In principle some of those things  
(like SQL backends) should be integrated into zmailer (zmsh) but  
wonders if anyone would actually use it.
