  I have just tried it on a 2.99.20 system and it doesn't happen anymore.

  I'm looking into one other situation.  I don't think the situation 
where a MX RR lookup causes a "Server Failed" response, but a A RR lookup 
suceeds is handled correctly.  However, this is a rare occurance, and 
requires a specially broken DNS setup!
