If a message with a Sender: field has gone through list expansion (RFC
1123 5.3.6(b)) the envelope return address and the Sender: field are
most likely to be different. In this case, the envelope return
address is the correct place to send notifications and the Sender:
field is not.
If you don't have the message to look at, you haven't accepted
responsibility for delivering the message and should not generate a
notification. If you detect an error during the SMTP reception, you
generate an SMTP error reply code and let the sender-SMTP generate the
notification.
