Sorry, inadequate report.  Copy of compiler diagnostics on that file
(first 20 lines of it) would be much appreciated.

Also some info about what environment you have, and what configuration
options you used.

This because I don't get any complaints from my Solaris environments,
nor my Linux environments...  Those are not the whole world, of course,
but are what I have at hand...

Reversed, I think ?   Yes, that extern can be moved into that file,
that is true.
