RE: Help with RBL setup

Gerard:

I'll take a stab at this. First, my smtp-policy.src uses "rbl0" in lower case everywhere. I don't know if that matters, but it's worth a try. Second, if I understand the "+" and what I've read on maps.vix.com, they don't do free RBL anymore - unless you're a school. So, you may want to leave that one out.

The difference between the second and third RBL variant is related to whether the connected computer accepts error codes before the MAIL FROM and RCPT TO lines are sent - and from the docs it seems this is relevant mostly for WIN mailers. I decided to go for the second variant (early block) - and although some WIN servers take a while to get the idea, the do eventually get it. Here's how mine looks, FYI:

#| Second RBL variant: Early block with RBL+DUL+RSS
_rbl0 test-dns-rbl relays.ordb.org:dun.dnsrbl.net:relays.visi.com
_rbl1 # Nothing at late phase

Hope this helps,

Neal Morgan

Subject: Help with RBL setup

Can someone take a look at the attached smtp-policy.src file and tell me
what I am doing wrong? I have been looking into the RBL setup of my zmailer
installation and I have been finding out that it is not rejecting any
messages. I am sure that it is something pretty straight forward and
something that I just don't understand.

If I look at the smtpserver logs, I find the looks are occuring. I just
don't think that they are right. Here is a snippet from my logs.

PUpQEGS0000# connection from mail2.nsc.com ipcnt 1 childs 2 ident:
TIMEDOUT
PUpQEGS0000# Looking up DNS A object: 16.32.151.12..
PUpQEGS0000# Looking up DNS A object: 16.32.151.12...
PUpQEGS0000w 220 jabber.kernelrom.com ZMailer Server 2.99.56-pre4 #4
ESMTP+IDENT ready at Fri, 16 Jan 2004 15:45:16 -0500
PUpQEGS0000# remote from [12.151.32.16]:3090

This is actually from a valid message, and the second and third lines are
the ones that don't look quite right. From other messages I have seen on
this mailing list, I would expect the lines to read something like:

PUpQEGS0000# Looking up DNS A object: 16.32.151.12.rbl.maps.vix.com.
PUpQEGS0000# Looking up DNS A object: 16.32.151.12.sbl-xbl.spamhaus.org.

Any help would be appreciated.
