The more I keep looking at this, the more I think the getaddrinfo()
  is the primary suspect.

  I don't have any Sol7 machine (only 2.6 and 8) so I don't know if it
has getaddrinfo() at its libc, or not.. Does config.h have
	HAVE_GETADDRINFO
  defined or not ?

What I do see at 2.6 (at nic.funet.fi in fact), is that sometimes it
breaks in ugly ways. Therefore I am now reworking that beast to be
a bit simpler -- no IPv6 support at it as machines needing it don't
  have IPv6 anyway.

FOR A WHILE I WILL BREAK (intentionally) THE CVS CARRIED getaddrinfo.c
FILE -- IT MAY WORK, but as testing can't happen at my primary machine,
I need to commit and sync it out for testing...
